12 NOV 2017: RULES TO OBEY!
Akaa-Volley got the rules to behave ourselves during the time we practise in our volleyball hall from the small girls of A-Volley. They have created the rules by themselves! Nice rules - to all volleyball players.
9 NOV 2017: LAPLAND!
Akaa-Volley visited Santa Claus in Rovaniemi. Unfortunately, Santa himself was having his lunch just at the time and we could not get him in the same picture! Maybe next time...
26 OCT 2017: ARE BOTH AMERICANS MISSING THE MATCH ON SUNDAY THE 29th OCT?
We'll have an important match on the coming Sunday. Raision Loimu is one of the teams having long history in the Finnish champions league. During the 40 years in the league Loimu has won altogether 15 medals. Thus, it would be honour to beat Loimu in Akaa on Sunday.
But, we do have some worries concerning our foreign players: Scott had to visit the doping control in Vammala on Wednesday after the match against VaLePa. He was playing so well and smiling like the sun all the time - we do not know what kind of medicine he had taken :)
Even a more serious problem we have with Ryan. He met his first ever snow on Wednesday evening - and now his somewhere out there in the white nature. Erecting snowmen, rolling in the snow, throwing snow balls … and what ever one can do with snow. We hope to find him before Sunday!
What to do. This is life ;)
15 OCT 2017: HURRIKAANI DESTROYS AKAA-VOLLEY BY SERVICE
Akaa-Volley felt the power of Hurricane today (Game was played on 14th of October) at Monari. (Monari is the nickname of our home hall). Hurrikaani is Hurricane in Finnish and it is the name of the volleyball team of the town called Loimaa some 60 kilometres south from Akaa.
The Hurricane was just as strong as the name says! Specially the midblocker Matti Oivanen was too strong to us. His serves were all too difficult (8 aces) and we lost the match 0-3 (22-25,18-25,18-25). Anyhow, Hurrikaani-Loimaa is one of the best teams in the league. Thus, even if we lost the match our coach Lauri Tihinen said we have taken one more step onwards while playing equally with them as soon as we managed to avoid aces.
Looking for the coming struggles! The next game is on the coming Thursday and it is one belonging to Finnish Cup. The next match in the league is on the 25th Oct and it is one of the most difficult ones. We'll meet Vammalan Lentopallo which is the strongest candidate for the Finnish Championship this year.
Beware of this man if you meet him on the volleyball court! Matti Oivanen is The Killer with his serves.
10 OCT 2017: SWIMMING!
Ryan is almost a Finn already. Swimming in the river Tarpianjoki at this time of the year - water temperature was 12C. Waiting for the ice cover on the river. We'll drop him in the ice hole! And Scott - he has visited the river twice. And enjoying as you see ;)
8 OCT 2017: AKAAVOLLEY GOT ITS 1ST EVER POINTS IN FINNISH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
Saturday the 7th October 2017 is now written with big letters in the history of the volleyball team Akaa Volley. Akaa-Volley won Vantaa Ducks 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-14). This match gave Akaa-Volley its first ever points in Finnish volleyball league.
- This was a nice match. We showed that we have done right things in our trainings, said the coach Lauri Tihinen after the match. But, we should remember that this was one match only. There are number of them coming and we should be improving all the time.
Many of Akaa players were successful on Saturday. Anyhow, we should mention the players from USA in special. The middle palyer Scott Siwicki stroke with 67% efficiency and took one block. The striker Ryan Steven Mather got his first ever minutes in his position in the Finnish league. In the previous match he visited the field as a blocker only.
- Ryan took his first ever point as a striker in the Finnish league. I hope this will encourage him to train even harder, said the manager of the team Risto Lahti.
Ryan Steven Mather has just stroke his first ever point in the Finnish national league in vollyball
